The promises and perils of implantable defibrillators (ICDS)
Four bedrooms Heart
The heart has two upper chambers called atria left and right, and two lower chambers called the left and right ventricles. blood returns to the heart through a system of veins that swell as they approaching closer to the heart, until one large vein which remains to enter the heart, called the vena cava. This is the venous blood, full of waste.
The circular motion of blood
• The venous blood from the lower right atrium and moves through a valve in the right ventricle.
• The heart pumps into the pulmonary artery (the only artery in the body that carries venous blood). Thus, blood enters the lungs, where the air absorbs indrawn waste (primarily carbon dioxide) and fills it with oxygen.
• From the lungs it travels in the pulmonary veins into the left atrium of the heart.
• It moves down by another valve in the left ventricle.
• The heart pumps It Out in the aorta, the largest artery, which allows it in all other arteries, smaller and smaller.
• This blood gives his oxygen is waste, and is now the venous blood returning to the heart for cleaning.
What is fibrillation?
Our heartbeats are directed by the brain via nerves. In a diseased heart, information (impulses) can not arrive intact or can be interpreted and implemented in correctly. The heart would lose their regular rhythm and a lesson to a random sample, so low, not effectively pump blood. This of fibrillation.
If the brain does not receive enough oxygen for several minutes, it is damaged. Then he can stop the run heart beat. Ventricular fibrillation is life threatening. (There is also an atrial fibrillation, which is a more minor problem.) If a person goes into fibrillation ventricular, time is of the essence. Therefore, an ICD is usually implanted in the chest of the person to immediately detect any arrhythmia in the beating heart and fix it before fibrillation becomes dangerous.
How CIM Working?
The ICD lead is attached to two places for heart: the right atrium and right ventricle. From there, the blood must be pumped into the lungs to be oxygenated. If heartbeat falters, the son will notice right away and the ICD sends a shock through the leads to the heart. It jolts the heart back into a regular rhythm.
You may have seen the same thing done on some television programs on medical emergencies. Several nurses and doctors on the patient threatened with electrodes on the broad chest, and the shock they offer makes the patient jerk.
An ICD works more subtle but equally effective. Protects a person of ventricular tachycardia (a heartbeat that is too fast to be effective as well as fibrillation.
Defective Defibrillator Leads
The son are insulated with silicone. But in some cases, the insulation fails. Sometimes, lead fractures. Sometimes the lead does not detect an arrhythmia and respects not to provide the electric shock that would restore normal heartbeat.
Some INN have been recalled because of such defects, for example, those made by Medtronic, Guidant and St. Jude Medical.
If you have lost a loved one due to the failure of an ICD, you may have a valid claim of right. Litigation involving defective medical devices can be very complex and require much time medical investigation. The sooner you contact a lawyer defibrillator experienced, the sooner he or she can start looking into your situation and gathering information.
